In 19th century France, a girl named Perrine travels with her family to search for her grandfather. Perrine has to overcome many hardships, losing her father in Bosnia and then her mother to illness. The girl finally finds her blind and lonely grandfather living in a castle-like mansion, but she is unable to make him realize who she is. She then becomes a secretary of his father, waiting for an opportunity to introduce herself as his granddaughter. As Perrine treats him with kindness, the grandfather gradually regains his warm heart and kindness. One day, a famous ophthalmologist arrives from Paris and an operation allows the old man to see his granddaughter's face for one moment: Perrine looks exactly like his son.
