The 16-year-old high school student Daichi Kakeru never had a girlfriend before. But one day, when, after buying a can of melon juice soda, his lips touch the can, it transforms into the attractive human girl, Melon . To complicate things further, more akikan girls begin appearing, each of them needing to be infused with carbon dioxide from kissing to survive. Apparently all this is part of a secret government project... not that any of this reduces Kakeru's bewilderment. Note: Akikan means empty can in Japanese. The first episode received an advance release on Bandai Channel on 22 December 2008. The regular TV broadcast started on 4 January 2009
